It’s the Scanner Dummy

by Rick ·

Same Image scanned with an Epson V700

So after my last post, I looked at everything to try to determine why this photo scanned in so poorly. Well after looking at everything I asked a friend to scan it into a jpg file for my using his Epson V700. as you can see, the results were very much better. the image was scanned at 720DPI.

So as you can see the quality of the scanner is very important in this operation. I recently purchased a canon canoscan 8800f so that I can scan my negative into JPG files. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet but I am hoping I’ll get some time very soon.

In the mean time, I am continuing to shoot B&W film and have discovered that if I pre-soak my film before pouring in the developer, It sems to produce a better quality negative. I’ve tried this no on two rolls an they both have come out with a little more contrast. I’m going to try it with some 120 film this weekend and see if it makes a difference.
